Being a new mom

aababy2As a nurse-midwife I always encourage new moms about their new role. I usually tell them that they can do it. God gave them their babies because He knows that they are capable to take care of their babies. I tell them that being a new mom is not easy. You have to learn everything by doing. The problem is, you’re learning on a tiny, sensitive being who yelps at the first indications of discomfort. No wonder that you may feel insecure and tentative. You’re fearful your infant might not survive your mistakes. It helps to remember that confidence building is exactly that- a building process. You learn from your mistakes, and slowly lay a foundation of successes. You need to be patient with yourselves and remember that you have your own pace. You can’t go any faster than you’re capable of going. If you rush, you make mistakes and that will undermine your successes. After all God give moms motherly instinct.
