Karma from nature

When nature strikes there is no escape, especially with earthquakes. This is so frightening and disastrously devastating. Imagine 68,858, dead with another 18,618 missing (as of Friday, according to CNN), how catastrophic that was, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake. This is so sad and painful for Chinese victims and their families. Is it rightful to say that it is “karma”? It is so more frightening to say that, and unjust. Frightening in a sense that by saying that maybe karma comes back to us with a force greater than that. It wasn’t their choice. They just happen to be living in a place where nature chose to demonstrate its power, and it can happen anywhere. It could happen in whatever form in our place. We should be thankful that we were safe from it and support the victims instead. It was not a joke. We should never be despising or make comments like that over other peoples’ misery. We are all under the heavens, we can never tell what will come or fall our way. Is anyone really safe when nature unpredictably strikes its anger?

Footnote: Sharon Stone was regretful for the May 22 remarks about the disaster in China.

Alligator Garfish

102 (1): armored fish

Can you imagine a fish 10 feet long and weighing 300 pounds? That would be a record length alligator gar you would have. This was one of the unique things we saw in New Orleans. Alligator gar fish. The Cajun’s call the alligator gar “Poisson arme” which means “Armored fish”. And it is. The scales of the alligator gar are made of bone and they overlap each other and are really tough. So tough that the native American tribes down in the South actually made their own bodies armors out of them, they would wear them on their chest to help stop knives and arrows.

Now you can also eat garfish, they are good to eat. But the problem is trying to cut through these scales. If you catch a large one and use a fillet knife, you would starve to death. They are really tough it literally takes a small axe or hatchet to chop your way through them.

Who should initiate in the relationship, man or woman?

In light of this situation, what do you think? Do you support the guy, or want them to meet first at the woman’s home with her family? Who should initiate in the relationship? Which scenario gives the good advantage for both? Liberal or conservative? Each partner is equal and either of the party can go  meet the other anytime, anywhere (remember it is hard to obtain a US tourist visa in her condition), or should they stick to traditional way where a man will go meet the woman?

Hosting Visitors to the U.S.

Somebody asked me about how to get tourist visa for the US, and what are the requirements. Her US citizen boyfriend wants to sponsor her to come to the country next year on her birthday and spend time together. I understand them, but something rings a bell in my ears. I assumed the guy is not very familiar with immigration processes hence the suggestion. They have not met in person yet, that is why for me is it preferable for the guy to come first to the gal’s country and met her and her family out of respect, since they are planning to get married in two years. And besides, it is easier that way if he will be the one to go and then they process a fiancée visa or a spousal if they decide to get married there. Why I say this is because with the tight process of obtaining a tourist visa to the US and by the woman’s status in her early thirties with ordinary job, it is almost hopeless. Of course I would like for them to be together, but if the guy realize their plan’s outcome, he would find a way advantageous to both of them, even if he is schooling. There is always a way, as they say, love will find its way around the world.

What do you think or suggest?

Aid for Myanmar

It was such a powerful cyclone named Nargis, that shook Myanmar. As of this writing, 22,464 were dead, and 41,000 missing according to the State radio. In disasters like this, sometimes the aftermath can be more dangerous than the cyclone itself because of the spread of disease, lack of food, water and shelter. International aids have been flowed in today. But sad that there are still parts inaccessible yet because of flooding and road damage. Nature had struck, the damage has been done, I just pray for those donors and foreign aid to reach even the tiniest cry.

Revolution wordpress theme

The one I am using as of this writing is the Revolution theme designed by Brian Gardner. It also comes with 3 column layouts two sidebars at the right and sidebars on each side. A very neat theme.
